For at least the last 10 years in New Jersey, youve lived in the same congressional district.
But now more than 1.4 million residents are moving due to new district lines drawn by New Jerseys independent redistricting commission to reflect population shifts under the 2020 census.
It means many of you will see new names atop your Nov. 8 general election ballot the candidates who want to represent you in Washington.
With no Senate race this fall, those running in the crucial House races at President Joe Bidens midterm occupy the first line..
Redistricting will shift 106 municipalities nearly one in five into new congressional districts. In addition, parts of 16 others are divided between two districts. The lines mean that each of New Jerseys 12 U.S. House members will represent around 773,585 residents.
The new lines give Democrats a clear edge in nine districts and a slight advantage in a 10th, while Republicans received two safe seats. New Jersey currently sends 10 Democrats and two Republicans to the U.S. House, compared with a 6-6 split as recently as 2016.
Weve broken it down a few ways for you: a locater map where you can plug in your address and see which district youre in, and a complete list of municipalities that are shifting from one district (and House member) to another.
To find out which district youre in, type your address into the map below and then click anywhere in that district to see your district number. Having trouble viewing the map, click here:
